In a region of the United States where fiddles and banjoes are as much a part of the local color as muskets and coonskin caps, we offer this 8 day excursion that is a perfect adventure to share with friends and family. Spend the evening exploring Nashville, TN before barging on the lovely Cumberland River. After a passage through Cheatham Lock, we'll barge on Lake Barkley and pass through the Barkley Canal for a short stint on the Tennessee River. We'll visit Savannah, TN, where we'll take a trip to Shiloh National Military Park. Remembrances of the Civil War will be recalled at our visit here. It is the scene of one of the hardest-fought battles of the Civil War. After a passage through Pickwick Lock you will enjoy a visit to beautiful Florence, AL, which sits on two lakes that were formed by the Tennesse Valley Authority dams on the Tennessee River. We'll visit Wilson Dam and the Helen Keller House. After another passage through Pickwick Lock and the Barkley Canal, we'll enjoy some more Cumberland River barging before we arrive in the charming river town of Clarksville, TN. Visit the historic downtown area and the Customs House Museum and Cultural Center or take a trip to a local winery. After another passage through Cheatham Lock, we'll arrive in Nashville, TN, better known as "Music City, USA," where you'll have an overnight stay. The music, the rivers, the people and the shores: they're all calling you to go Barging Through America for the special adventures we call Expanding Frontiers.
